Events at the festival:

One of the greatest discoveries of the Polish music stage in recent years. A family band that enchants all listeners who have open minds and hearts. The band comes from Męcina Mała in the Low Beskids. It was founded by multi-instrumentalist Jan Malisz and his children.
The concert at the Strefa club as part of the Ethno Stage of Krakow Wianki is also a promotion of the latest album of the Malisz band, released by Unzipped Fly Records: Wiejski Dżez – awarded in May with the title of the Folk Phonogram of the Year 2017 in the Polish Radio Competition.

The group was nominated for the Songlines Music Awards 2015 in the Best Group category. They are the winner of many prestigious awards, including the 3rd Prize in the "Folk Phonogram of the Year 2015” competition for the Mazurki niepojęte album, the title of the Folk Phonogram of the Year 2017 for the Wiejski Dżez album, the 2nd Prize at the New Tradition Festival (2014) and the Złote Gęśle/Golden Gusle award for Kacper Malisz (2014).

The group has also won the Old Tradition competition at the Mazurkas of the World Festival in Warsaw (1st place and the Audience Award) and the Festival of Singers and Bands in Kazimierz (1st place). They have played concerts in such locations as Malaysia at the Rainforest Music Festival, in the UK at WOMAD Festival on the BBC3 stage, in Germany at the Rudolstadt Festival, at Radio WDR 3 in Cologne, in Bonn, Offenburg, as well as in Belgium at the Gooikkoorts Festival, the EthnoPort 2015 Festival, EthnoKraków/Crossroads 2015 and the Cross Culture Festival 2014.

Kapela Maliszow plays traditionally: the violin, bass and drums – in an archaic way, but with a great deal of freedom, joy and improvisation. The organic, captivating and inseparable artistic whole is created here by traditional themes on the one hand, and original compositions on the other. It is worth mentioning that the violin and the baraban played by the band’s musicians are family instruments the band inherited from Józef, Jan Malisz’s father. He also passed on to his son the basics of playing many of the instruments that surrounded him in his family home. The band also builds instruments. Jan’s studio produces instruments such as violins, basolias, hurdy-gurdys, nyckelharpas, pipes and many others.
