Workshops and Dance Nights at EtnoKraków/Crossroads 2017 Festival

The workshops under the EtnoKraków/Crossroads Festival offer a unique opportunity to meet artists who consider traditional culture as an important context of their artistic endeavours and inspirations and whose artistic and educational activities restore abandoned traditions to be practiced, creatively reconstructed and continued. This year’s Festival edition will abound with plenty of accompanying events. Don’t miss out!

This year the Festival offers a new workshop proposal: meetings organized for the youngest participants [suggested age: 6-10 years]. During the “Small Crossroads” workshops the children will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with folk games and traditional instruments from Małopolska and learn to make toys and decorations inspired by regional art. Older Festival participants can choose between singing, dance and crafts workshops. Katarzyna Chodoń and Maria Siwiec will be teaching Kajoki songs. Olga Kozieł and Genowefa Lenarcik will invite the workshop participants to sing Kurpie songs with them. The spirit of the northern runic songs will be revived by three outstanding artists: Pulkkinen - Räss - Sadovska (Finland / Switzerland / Ukraine). The songs of the repatriates from former Yugoslavia will be taught by Joanna Skowrońska. Justyna Piernik will invite you the workshop of Kujawy songs. The workshops of Polish traditional dances for beginners will be run by Arkadiusz Szałata. More experienced dancers will meet with Jadwiga Kula. The outstanding dance teacher Piotr Zgorzelisk will invite you to try a lively krakowiaks and traditional city dances.

Dance Nights will also be held in the Festival Club (Strefa, 31 Św. Tomasza Street as a follow-up of the workshops. It will be an excellent opportunity to perfect your dancing skills in a party atmosphere. Practical activities in making toys and decorations inspired by the Krakow Workshop tradition will be run by ŻyWa Pracownia. Ecobotany workshops in Łętownia, led by Asia Mieszkowicz and Karol Szurdak, will conclude the series of workshops. You are most welcome!!
